Description	This booklet is based on my doctoral studies of the role of women in religious leadership, condensed into a well-received paper I presented at the Women's Spirituality Conference at New College, in San Francisco in 2003. I look at the role of "priestess" in an historical context across cultures, as a way of shedding light on some of the issues encountered by modern-day priestesses. The conclusions I reach are not what you may expect, and are sure to surprise and enlighten.
